Jaundice Meter

About 60% of term babies, and 80% of preterm babies, develop jaundice in their first week of life.

They are affected by jaundice as a result of raised levels of bilirubin in the blood. Clinical examination can detect jaundice, but not the bilirubin level itself.

The best methods for assessing the risk of developing severe hyperbilirubinaemia in newborns are to measure either the serum bilirubin or transcutaneous bilirubin.

Drawing a serum bilirubin on all infants is not only expensive, but is also a painful procedure.

A transcutaneous bilirubinometer (rather than a blood test) can be used in babies who are more than 24 hours old. transcutaneous bilirubin meter mainly is used to detect the bilirubin, comprising a source of light having spectral components absorbable and not absorbable by bilirubin,

Transcutaneous bilirubin (TcB) measurement offers a gentle, pain-free alternative to traditional jaundice screening. There is no blood drawn.

The Draeger Jaundice Meter JM-103 is a non-invasive screening device that assists in the management of neonatal jaundice by using transcutaneous measuring technology to estimate the level of bilirubin in the blood.

Screening is done by placing the measuring probe on the baby's chest or forehead and pressing gently. To take another measurement, the probe is cleaned with an alcohol swab and the reset button is pressed.

Reusable Draeger Jaundice Meter JM-103 provides results in seconds rather than hours. It is portable.

It eliminates time-consuming blood draws, the scheduling of laboratory work and processing costs. It also promotes TcB screening efficiency, producing reliable measurements with significantly fewer steps.

Jaundice Meter JM-103 features a reusable probe tip, it requires no costly disposables.
